• Always keep in mind that if you retrofit and don't use the principles of universal design, when you or your heirs need to sell this home it may need a costly revovation to remove the "old person's" home feel. 

Importantly, have resolve. Don't wind up putting a load of possessions into storage. All you are doing is putting off the inevitable and incurring monthly storage charges, to boot. Deal with the reality of your new or renovated space right from the "git go". You'll be glad you did.
